Yield surface of the CDPM model

Back to Damage Plasticity constitutive models

The yield surface (f = 0) of the damage-plasticity model CDPM (Grassl & Jirásek, 2006) is based on the Menétrey-Willam (1995) failure criterion. It depends on an eccentricity parameter e and a hardening parameter qh. The videos below illustrate the influence of these two parameters.

Influence of eccentricity e

The eccentricity parameter e is varied from 0.5 to 1 for qh = 1. For e ≈ 0.5, the deviatoric section has a triangular shape near the origin; for e = 1, it is circular. For concrete, values close to 0.5 are used, giving an almost triangular deviatoric section with smooth compressive meridians.

Influence of hardening parameter qh

The parameter qh is varied from 0.1 to 1 with e = 0.51. For qh < 1, the yield surface is closed on the hydrostatic axis.
